The southwest of Portugal is nowadays recognized as being one of the few places in Europe where some pelagic seabird species can be seen. Some of the most looked for are the Wilson's Storm Petrel (Oceanites oceanicus), the Great Shearwater (Puffinus gravis), the Manx Shearwater (Puffinus puffinus), the Levantine Shearwater (Puffinus yelkouan) and Audouin's Gull (Larus audouinii), among others. Some of the species encountered more frequently are the Northern-Gannet,the Cory's Shearwater, the Great Skua or the European Storm Petrel, depending on the season.

During this trip we navigate up to a few miles offshore and may use chum. It is possible to watch and photograph in a close range some of the rarest species.

But Sagres has more to offer. Almost all species occuring in Portugal mainland can be found in this area year round, making of it one of the most complete birdwatching experiences in our country. This area is not only frequented by numerous wintering species but also flown by migrating ones - an unforgettable show especially during autumn.
